Since Children of Earth people have been twittering and blogging about how subtle and well-written Torchwood is and, even though I'm a fan, I think these people are insane. Torchwood is rubbish, I know it's rubbish and I like it being rubbish but PLEASE never say that it's well written. It's pretentious, self-righteous, obvious and plain stupid most of the time. Every so often you get a moment that shines through as being genuine and beautiful but mostly it's crap and I've come to like it for that, or I used to anyway. The plots are driven by incredible coincedences and they make no sense at all, they are not well-written or well-acted and make Robin Hood look like Citizen bloody Kane.
Ok, got that off my chest *deep breath*

The whole website it pretty amusing in a cynical and slightly unreal way. I can't believe people like this actually exist, and that they have the necessary motor functions to be able to use the internet (well ... shame about the formatting).
Now, if you'll excuse me I'm going to cover myself in corpse paint and watch gay porn...

More Policemen...
This is turning into a very odd week again, we had the prince Charles incident on weds and today we had more coppers in sight. The two houses next door (10 and 11, one of which I am supposed to be moving into next year) were broken into this morning and the first thing I knew about it was the policeman knocking on the door with my landlady's mum asking if we heard anything. The scary thing is that they got in through the loft which is shared along the whole row of houses, they could easily have got us. The only thing that I can think of which would have stopped them is the fact that we were actually in, the others were on their school placements so left about half six in the morning. The loft entrance is in Vicky's room and she was out on placement too, had to go and check everything was still in her room. Can just imagine telling her, 'erm, Vicky, someone came and stole your laptop while we were in bed, sorry about that.'
We went all uptight about security for literally a whole hour, but it's so warm we just opened all the windows and thought sod it. Don't know what I would do if they took my computer though, all my research and notes for my assessments are on here so I'd have to go through it all again Don't know why they would take mine though, it's broken and I have to keep the power cable attached to the thing using a Poppets box. Very technical. Saving me about a hundred pound though, and you get the added bonus of eating the poppets. (Toffee flavour, for anyone who cares)

Had a such a good time over the past few days! Got to Nottingham (and the skanky hotel) yesterday with Jemma, checked in, did all the boring stuff and then set out. Was quite impressed that we managed to find our way to Rock City relying purely on my memories from Seether. Went via the cutest pub in the world, it was very 'olde worlde' but had Tool playing in the background, it was called something like The Salutation Inn for future ref - on Maid Marion Way. Managed to get to Rock City an hour early but was afraid of losing it again so just stayed put, we started our very own queue (with us at the front) which was slightly surreal. Saw some brilliant outfits (Goths are the best dressed people in the world) and a hoard of tweenie chavs who hired a limo and drove past a million times before falling out, the driver looked kinda ashamed to be there.
Was kinda surprised about how small the basement actually was but managed to get a fairly cool spot next to the bar and two people from the stage (unfortunately one of the two people was 6 foot something and had a really irritating girlfriend who tried to drag him right infront of me). The support were 'Stoneman' - slutty (in a good way) growling goths from Switzerland, they were lots of fun at the start but then their songs started sounding the same, kinda lost patience with them at the end wanting Deathstars to come on but would have done even if they were fab. Couldn't understand what they said between songs, heard 'Switzerland' a lot. On the plus side, got some fab photos of them ... photos look kinda rubbish here though.
Massively long break in the middle with crew guys doing their thing and annoying girl trying to shift tall guy in front again (my elbow in his back usually stopped that, feel kinda guilty now though). Got kinda bored and miffed but that all went away the second they hit the stage, couldn't help getting hyped. Was cool seeing the new guy, worried he's not human though, his hair was just as perfect at the end as at the start.
Can't remember the set list, they prob did nearly all the songs though, can remember all the main ones. Most of them came with really cheesy intros from Whiplasher in a thick Swedish accent but I think my fave was something about his loving everyone in the crowd but that it was incestuous, he was our mother and we were his children, this was the motherzone [cue 'Motherzone']. He did the 'scream if you want me to take my clothes off' thing too, only half carried it out though (nice tattoo). They did the encore thing - walked off the stage, came back and Nightmare was the only one with a shirt on, hmmmm.

I went to see Tool on friday night at Nottingham Arena and omfg!! The whole weekend was probably the best for a very long time. Got my new piercing on Thurs, headed down to Notts on Fri where I got to catch up with Katie, checked into a funky hotel with an amazing view (11th floor!), Tool, then Nic came over last night and we went down to Sugarcubes (finally)! But Tool is kinda the main thing!
On the way we found an amazingly cute pub called 7 Deadly Sins and had a few drinks there which meant I got to the arena kinda late but just in time to catch the last song and a half of Mastodon. Managed to find this strange guy called Colin who had loads of ear piercings and a horizontal bridge (he was jealous of my vertical lol!) as well as a few people who asked if we were going to Tool. It was a really great atmosphere because most of the slightly gothed up people were going to the concert and excited about it. We got slightly lost at one point but got there in the end. The security were just funny.
I've been listening to Mastodon on cd quite a bit lately but they seemed kinda dead onstage for the whole five minutes I saw, I think mainly because the lights were still up and the crowd was just stood there looking like they didn't care. I thought it was some of the crew arsing around with instruments at first but noticed the huge banner above them with their name on (duh). Decided it wasn't really worth it so went to the bar and got one of the most disgusting pints I have drank in my entire life before heading back into the crowd where I had loads of space and stared up at the people who were sat down! How the hell do you sit down at a Tool gig? Though some of them were old...
There seemed to be something a bit wrong with the crowd who were just amazingly calm and a bit disinterested, because no-one seemed that bothered we walked right upto the front and stood 3 people from the barrier near Adam Jones. I was expected a huge surge of people when the band came on but I had personal space through the entire gig which was really strange after being crushed like hell at Placebo. The first few songs were a blur just because of the whole Tool-being-a-few-metres-away thing but I think Prison Sex was in there somewhere and I think I heard Undertow...maybe.
Tool are just amazing. The sounds they get out of their instruments are incredible and they were so controlled onstage it was unbelievable. Maynard was stood at the back of the stage all night and his "dancing" was fun to watch - he bent over backwards and moved his arms and the whole thing was kinda tai-chi-ish.. His voice was just as perfect as it is on the cds. I can't really remember what they played because I was really sad and far too into it but most of the big hits were there - Lateralus, Aenima, Schism etc - as well as quite a lot from the new album. They played Wings straight through which was a bit disappointing, they're the only songs I don't actually like that much. The rest of the audience seemed a bit bored through that too, they had a laser show while they played and that kept most people awake though, pretty much the only time maynard wasn't addictive. The lighting itself was pretty impressive as the videos were playing on a huge backdrop, the (trippy) album art was projected onto the wall at the back and there were pink/blue/white lights overhead as well as the green lasers.
